Historical headlines:

The first lighthouse at Vikeholmen was built in 1849 in connection with the rich herring fishing in this area throughout long periodes of the nineteenth century. In ordre to improve the conditions for sailing at night, several seasonal lighthouses were built that were to be lit only in the herring fishing period, from Christmas to the end of Marsh.
The lighthouse were small wooden shacks with room only for a small table and a chair. The lighthose keeper sat there at night tending the lamp.
At that times there  was no dwelling at the lighthouse, so the job was performed by somone living locally.
Soon there was a demand for the light to be lit all year, and in 1875 the present lighthouse was erected.
The lighthouse was operational until 1908. Since then the lighthouse has been a private home, and from 1964 owned by Skudenes Seaman Association.

The lighthouse at Vikeholmen is totaly renovated and appares today as an exclusive holiday residence.
